Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Room design packages include all the tools you need to complete a total room redesign at an affordable cost. My design services help make my clients' visions a reality. A space must function, as well as be gorgeous. The challenge of design thrills me. I love working to create a harmonious balance between what the client wants and needs with what fits their functional and budgetary needs.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Fee structures that designers use may vary greatly. I want my designs to touch as many people as possible; therefore I don't restrict my jobs to only those that will make big money. If you don't think you can afford a designer, then I want you to know that you can. My clients are given many different options for their design projects depending upon their needs and budget.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. I hope that you have a realistic expectation of what can be done with the budget you have. I am more than happy to work with you to help you gain a better understanding of what to expect throughout the design process in terms of your needs, wants and budget. The value of hiring me now at the beginning of your redesign will save you many headaches and heartache, as well as money down the road.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Interior decoration is my passion. The dynamics of envisioning a space in a capacity completely different than it's initial existence and then figuring out how to make that vision a reality is truly complex. I love that with each new design, I am able to construct a completely new and unique interior with a character all its own.

Q. What's your design style?

A. Personally, my design style is eclectic. I love the challenge of finding the common elements between different styles that allow a bridge to be formed between them. As a designer, I'm exposed to so many different furnishings, finishes and materials. I see so many lovely things that I want in my own home. Sometimes I can't have those things because they don't work within the space or they're too expensive. I do my best to try to make then work though. I do the same for my clients.

As a professional, I don't really have a design style, rather design philosophies and design knowledge. I make certain that my design for you represents your unique design style. I believe we each have a unique style that can't necessarily be categorized. It is my job as a designer to work with you to help you interpret that style.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I am a member of several professional design organizations including IFDA- International Furnishings and Design Association, NKBA- National Kitchen and Bath Association, as well as ASID- American Society of Interior Designers. I am also a customer at the Chicago Design Team in Arlington Heights. They all offer professional development and networking opportunities that I support.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Designers, architects and builders, as well as an array of other trade professionals have been exploring sustainable and green design practices more and more as the need for its understanding becomes increasingly critical.

Online shopping offerings have changed the playing field for many designers. I personally love shopping online sample sales, so if a client is up for that, then that works for me. If a client wants to purchase all of their own furnishings at their leisure, then that also works for me. I can also certainly take care of the purchasing and installation of one or many custom pieces for your design. I'm extremely flexible. My only expectation for each project is to deliver a fantastic and functional design to the client.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. I offer flat rate room design packages with and without travel visits, as well as with and without shopping assistance. I also offer a la carte design services that are charged at an hourly rate. Hourly rates for services include...

*Consultation/Shopping
*Specifications
*Construction Administration
*Shop Drawings

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. I am extremely detail-oriented. Customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance to me. Many people aren't sure what they're looking for in a design. People often know what they like, but they aren't sure how to put the pieces together. I help clients see through the fog. Each space in your home reflects a unique interpretation of yourself. It is my pleasure to help you idealize those designs.
